At approximately 6:25 PM, a suicide bomber detonated his explosive vest outside the main gate of Kabal Police Station in Swat District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The blast occurred while police personnel and a large number of local residents were present in the area. A locally organised peace gathering was also taking place nearby. 
The District Police Officer (DPO) initially confirmed seven fatalities and 18 injuries. As rescue operations continued, the casualty toll was revised several times. According to journalist Iftikhar Firdous, citing Rescue 1122 Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the death toll later rose to 14, while more than 15 people remained under treatment. Hospital sources reported that Kabal Hospital received five bodies, while Saidu Sharif Hospital received 32 casualties, including nine fatalities, comprising four police personnel and five civilians, and 23 injured, including 15 police personnel and eight civilians. As of 12:00 PM on Monday, hospital sources confirmed that the death toll had risen to 16, including seven police personnel and nine civilians, after two additional police personnel succumbed to their injuries.
The funeral prayers for the martyred police personnel were offered at the Police Training School, Swat. The funeral was attended by Commander 6 Brigade Brigadier Amir Jamal, Regional Police Officer (RPO) Malakand Syed Fida Hassan Shah, Additional Inspector General of the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), Commissioner Malakand Division, District Police Officer (DPO) Swat Muhammad Omar, senior Pakistan Army and police officials, members of the district administration, families of the martyred personnel, and representatives of civil society. 
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned the suicide bombing in Kabal, Swat District, and expressed deep grief over the loss of lives. He also prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured, stating, "Our struggle will continue until the menace of terrorism is completely eradicated."
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi and Inspector General (IG) of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police, Zulfiqar Hameed, later visited the injured at Saidu Sharif Hospital. The police chief stated that a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) had been constituted to investigate the attack. He said the martyred police personnel would be compensated under the Shuhada Package, while efforts were underway to identify the suicide bomber and apprehend those responsible. He added that security measures had been further strengthened and urged the public to avoid unnecessary gatherings and exercise caution. 
On 4 August, Inspector General Frontier Corps Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (North), Major General Rao Imran Sartaj, visited Kabal Police Lines, where he paid tribute to the martyred police personnel. He laid a floral wreath at the Martyrs' Memorial, offered prayers for the fallen, met with police personnel, and praised their courage, professionalism, and sacrifices in maintaining peace and security. He also reaffirmed the Frontier Corps' support for the police and stressed the importance of further strengthening security measures in the region. 
The attack came only days after the Shalkho Sar operation in Swat, during which security forces killed four terrorists affiliated with the Pakistani Taliban (TTP). The operation also claimed the lives of four Village Defence Committee (VDC) members from the same family in Kabal, along with one police officer.
In a statement released after the attack, the Pakistani Taliban (TTP) claimed responsibility for the suicide bombing. 
According to official sources, authorities have identified the suicide bomber as a resident of Upper Dir District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The attacker reportedly had a previous record of involvement in terrorist activities, while investigations are underway to determine his suspected cross-border links and identify any facilitators who may have assisted him. The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) has registered a First Information Report (FIR) under relevant anti-terrorism provisions, and further investigations are ongoing.
