The Kabal suicide bomber was identified as Ilyas, alias Hamza, a former terrorism suspect who had been arrested in 2023 before travelling to Afghanistan and later returning to Pakistan.
A suicide bombing outside Kabal Police Station in Swat District killed 16 people, including seven police personnel and nine civilians, and injured dozens during a local peace gathering. The Pakistani Taliban (TTP) claimed responsibility, while authorities launched an investigation and identified the suspected bomber as a resident of Upper Dir District.
DG ISPR Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry held an important press conference on Pakistan’s counter-terrorism efforts. He said 40,348 intelligence-based operations were conducted from January to July 2026, resulting in 2,084 terrorists killed.
